YECSI IGNITE Session Inspires Young Entrepreneurs Through Real Business Stories
Young entrepreneurs in Honiara had the opportunity to learn directly from established business owners during the Young Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands quarterly IGNITE Session, held yesterday at the Solomon Islands National Art Gallery.
The session brought together YECSI members and local entrepreneurs for an interactive conversation on the realities of starting and sustaining a business in Solomon Islands.
It created a space where young people could hear practical advice, ask questions and draw motivation from those already working in the formal business sector.
Featured speakers for the session were Watson Maeletete, owner of Pathways Solutions, and David Siata, owner of Graceland Architect.
Both shared their entrepreneurial journeys, including the lessons, challenges and decisions that shaped their businesses.
Their stories highlighted the importance of resilience, mindset, access to information, networking, marketing, planning and long-term commitment.
They also encouraged participants to remain focused when faced with setbacks and to keep learning as they grow their ideas into sustainable enterprises.
For many participants, the value of the session was in hearing honest reflections from business owners who understood the local entrepreneurial environment.
The discussion helped connect ambition with practical experience, giving young entrepreneurs a clearer picture of what it takes to move from an idea to an operating business.
One YECSI member described the session as an exciting and encouraging opportunity to meet entrepreneurs who had already started their business journeys and could share insights from real experience.
The IGNITE Session is part of YECSI’s ongoing efforts to support young entrepreneurs through mentorship, learning and networking opportunities.
By connecting emerging entrepreneurs with established business leaders, the initiative aims to build confidence, strengthen business knowledge and encourage more young Solomon Islanders to take practical steps toward entrepreneurship.
YECSI is expected to host its final IGNITE Session for 2026 in the last quarter of the year, continuing its commitment to creating spaces where young entrepreneurs can learn, connect and be inspired.
The Council acknowledged Watson Maeletete and David Siata for accepting the invitation and sharing their knowledge, experiences and encouragement with YECSI members.
