Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Youth Voice in Solomon Islands

The Ministry of Women, Youth, Children, and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating closely with the Solomon Islands National Youth Congress (SINYC) to amplify the voices of young people across the country. This commitment was solidified during a recent courtesy visit by SINYC's leadership team, including Chair Harry James Olikwailafa, Vice Chair Philip Subu, and General Secretary Josie-Anne Ashley, to MWYCFA's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Cedric Alepe n dava, and the Director of the Youth Division, Andre Tipoki. During the meeting, SINYC shared its six-month Progress Report highlighting ongoing partnership projects and presented its Work Plan for the next six months. The SINYC team, consisting of dynamic young individuals, discussed the challenges Youth Congress faces in its mission and proposed strategies for overcoming these obstacles. Operation Render Safe 2024 – Set To Commence Next Week

Specialist explosive ordnance disposal teams and supporting air assets have started to arrive in Solomon Islands this week ahead of Operation Render Safe 2024. Over the coming days, more than 250 explosive ordnance specialists, from over eight countries will deploy to Western Province to identify and destroy explosive remnants of war remaining from World War II. At the request of the Solomon Islands Government, the Australian Defence Force and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force will lead a joint multinational team of experts from Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States. This will be the largest land-based Render Safe Operation ever conducted and will focus on the removal of explosive remnants of war from key areas in Western Province including Munda, Kolombangara, Kohinggo and Vona Vona. The Solomon Islands Australia Partnership announced its support for the emerging business, enabling Cab'It to expand and streamline its operations across Honiara. Founded by young entrepreneur John Junior Wanofafia, Cab'It has quickly positioned itself as a pioneering force in the country's digital landscape. The business, which takes online orders and delivers goods from suppliers to customers, is set to scale new heights with this latest injection of funding.
