Solomon Airlines Staff Member Recognised Among Australia’s Aviation Leaders with Double Award Win

Solomon Airlines is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Mrs Mavis Tom, Reservations Systems Manager, who has been recognised with two major honours at the 2026 Australian Aviation Awards: Female Aviation Leader of the Year – SME and Rising Star – SME.

Presented in Sydney on Thursday, 6 August 2026, the awards recognise Mrs Tom’s exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and contribution to aviation systems and operations.


Her achievement highlights the growing recognition of Pacific aviation professionals on the international stage and reflects the expertise, commitment, and capability of the Solomon Airlines team.

During her eight years with Solomon Airlines, Mrs Tom has played a key role in strengthening the airline’s international operations through her work supporting critical aviation systems, including check-in, boarding, baggage reconciliation, and flight departure processes.

She has led major technology initiatives, including the Departure Control System migration at Brisbane Airport from SITA to the Amadeus ACUS cloud-based platform, as well as systems implementation in Auckland to support immigration and visa compliance requirements.

Mrs Tom also independently implemented Baggage Reconciliation Systems across multiple international ports, including Nadi, Port Vila, Auckland, Brisbane, Honiara, Christchurch, and Port Moresby, strengthening baggage tracking, operational safety, and passenger experience.

Speaking after receiving the awards, Mrs Tom said she was honoured by the recognition and grateful for the support of her colleagues and partners.

“I am incredibly honoured to receive these awards. Over eight years with Solomon Airlines, I have worked on complex aviation systems across multiple international airports. I am grateful to my team and partners, and I hope this recognition encourages more women across the Pacific to pursue careers in aviation and technology,” Mrs Tom said.

Solomon Airlines Chief Executive Officer Matthew Findlay congratulated Mrs Tom on her achievement.

“Mavis represents the very best of Solomon Airlines. Her technical expertise, commitment, and leadership have been invaluable in supporting our international operations. While these awards recognise Mavis’ individual achievement, they also reflect the strength, capability, and talent within our Solomon Airlines team,” Mr Findlay said.

Mrs Tom’s success is an inspiration to aspiring aviation professionals across the Pacific and demonstrates the important role women continue to play in shaping the future of aviation.
