Ngossi Ward Youth Committee Established to Strengthen Youth Leadership and Community Action
Young people across Ngossi Ward have
taken an important step forward in community leadership following the
establishment of the Ngossi Ward Youth Committee 2026.
Formed under the theme “Youth Voices. Community Actions.”, the committee provides a structured platform for young people to participate in leadership, community development, and the wider national youth structure.
The election brought together youth representatives from communities across Ngossi Ward, including Ngossi Valley, Ngossi Ridge, Rock Valley, Independence Valley, Wind Valley, White River Upper Central, Central White River, Wind Valley SDA, Banana Valley, Kanava Youth Association, and TMC Foundation.
The event was held at the White River Police Station leaf hut and marked a significant milestone for youth representation in the ward.
It created space for young leaders from different communities to come together, share responsibility, and prepare to support development priorities affecting young people.
Newly Elected Committee
The newly established committee will be led by Chairman Moses Jnr Aunama of TMC Foundation, who was elected unopposed.
Rose Amasia of Independence Valley was also elected unopposed as Vice Chairperson.
Other executive members include Secretary Novena Tiare of Ngossi Valley, Assistant Secretary John Ramokona of Wind Valley, and Treasurer Jayshree Margie Alisae of Upper Central.
Committee members include Brendon Teava of Independence Valley, Eran Johnson of Kanava Youth Association Honiara Base, and Kalpa Phillip of Wind Valley SDA Youth.
A Platform for Youth Development
The establishment of the Ngossi Ward
Youth Committee is an important development for youth participation at the
community level.
It gives young people a recognised voice and a formal pathway to contribute to decision-making, leadership, and local action.
Chairman Moses Aunama acknowledged the support of everyone who helped make the committee possible and thanked youth leaders, community representatives, and partner organisations for coming together for what he described as a first-of-its-kind establishment for Ngossi Ward.
“Today’s milestone is a result of partnership between our Councillor Rex Konofilia and his administration for recognising youth and young people in Ngossi Ward,” Aunama said. “It is also the result of partnership between youth leaders from different communities within Ngossi. Finally, we are part of the structure and system.”
Support from Partners and Stakeholders
The committee acknowledged Councillor
Rex Konofilia for his continued support, as well as the Honiara Youth Council,
Honiara City Council Youth Division, Solomon Islands National Youth Congress
representatives, and the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs
for their support and facilitation.
The Ministry, through the Solomon Islands National Youth Congress and the Honiara Youth Council, helped facilitate the event, with additional support from the Honiara City Council Youth Division.
Looking Ahead
As the committee begins its work,
members will take time to settle into their new roles, complete inductions and
training, and prepare to organise youth activities and engagement across the
ward.
For Ngossi Ward’s young people, the establishment of the committee represents more than an election.
It is a step toward stronger youth leadership, community action, and meaningful participation in local development.
