Second Application Round Open For 2026 Solomon Islands - Australia Community Partnerships

Following close on the heels of the visit by Australian Prime Minister the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, the Solomon Islands-Australia Community Partnerships program is open for a second round of applications for 2026.

Through the program, the Australian High Commission is welcoming applications for community-led projects to improve the lives of Solomon Islands people and communities.

The Solomon Islands-Australia Community Partnerships support small-scale community projects like staff houses, toilet blocks, community water tanks, solar power for community infrastructure, and community halls.

The new fencing around the campus of Nguvia Community High School, Guadalcanal Province is helping to ensure that students and teachers feel safe and secure and protecting the school property. 


Community Partnerships funding is available to community groups across Solomon Islands. While it is not mandatory that an application be endorsed by a Member of Parliament, the Australian High Commission encourages jointly funded projects with local leaders as it reflects the partnership approach at the core of Australia’s development program.

In the first round of 2026, Australia received a record-breaking 278 applications, with 51 projects successful. This represents more than SBD 11.5 million in direct funding to local hardware and transportation service suppliers who help deliver these projects.

Since 2019, Australia has funded a total of 342 projects in every constituency in Solomon Islands, making a tangible difference to the lives of thousands of Solomon Islanders.

Five new handwashing stations across five school in Northern Vella La Vella, Western Province will improve sanitation and reduce the spread of illness and communicable diseases for hundreds of students – leading to better education attendance and outcomes. 

Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Jeff Roach, said “Australia is proud to support communities all across the country with life-changing small-scale community infrastructure projects, in partnership with the leaders and government of Solomon Islands.

“With around 80% of Solomon Islands’ population living in rural areas, I understand how important it is for communities to have quality infrastructure that improves their lives. The growing number of applications we receive every round shows that this program is more popular and more relevant to Solomon Islands development priorities than ever.”

“I am especially proud that all these projects are locally led. Local leaders set the priorities and local pride drives the outcomes. This is development that’s community-driven, transparent, and built to last.”

“These projects support local businesses and jobs directly. All hardware materials and shipping services to deliver new community infrastructure will be purchased locally.”

The installation of 139 new water tanks in the communities of Fauabu and Buma, West Kwara'ae, Malaita Province, is providing safe and reliable water to more than 2,000 people.

Thirteen young entrepreneurs from the Young Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands (YECSI) have strengthened their business and customer service skills after completing a Collaborative Customer Care course with the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC).
