In an interview with Kevin Olea last
night following the announcement, he expressed deep gratitude and humility,
dedicating his victory to his advisory committee and supporters.
“To God be the glory, great things He has done,” Olea said, quoting one of his mentors, former Prime Minister and current Opposition Leader Manasseh Sogavare.
“This victory belongs to my hardworking advisory committee who sacrificed their time, energy, and resources. Together, we share a vision that the voices of the unheard will finally be heard.”
Olea acknowledged the collective effort of students across all faculties, emphasizing that the win was a shared achievement.
“Every student contributed in some way—whether by voting or engaging in the process. This is our victory,” he said.
Olea assured students that their voices would remain central to his leadership.
“I want to assure all students that their concerns will not fall on deaf ears. They will be heard and addressed.”
Looking ahead, Olea outlined plans to engage with key university stakeholders, including the Vice-Chancellor, Student Association executive, and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development.
He also emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration with international supporters such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan and China.
“We are planning the way forward. Bigger things are coming,” he said.
Returning Officer Letona congratulated Olea on his successful election and commended students for upholding democratic principles throughout the process.
The outcome signals a new chapter in student leadership at SINU, with high expectations that Olea will champion student interests and contribute meaningfully to university governance.
