Solomon Islands Young Entrepreneurs Bring Christmas Hope to NRH Medical Ward

As the festive season approaches, the Young Entrepreneurs Council of Solomon Islands (YECSI) has chosen to conclude its 2025 calendar not with a corporate conference or workshop, but with a heartfelt act of compassion.

Through the YECSI Care Initiative, members mobilized to donate essential items including drinking water, clothing, toiletries, and cash to patients in the Medical Ward at the National Referral Hospital (NRH).

The initiative was specifically designed to support those spending the holidays in hospital beds, away from their families, during one of the year's most emotionally significant times.

A Gesture of Solidarity

The donation was formally received by Dr. Jason Itaku and Nurse Michael Anifelo.

YECSI Membership Officer Winnie Ashley presented the contribution on behalf of the council’s growing membership.

During the moving presentation, Nurse Anifelo expressed deep gratitude to the young leaders for remembering a group that is often overlooked during the holiday rush.

“Many of our patients will not be going home for Christmas,” Nurse Anifelo shared. “They will be here fighting illness. What YECSI has done today reminds them that they are not alone—that people out there still care.”

Ashley also took a moment to honor the frontline health workers, thanking the nurses and medical staff for their unwavering dedication. "You work long hours, through nights and weekends, often without recognition," she said. "YECSI sees you. We appreciate you, and we stand with you."

Entrepreneurship with a Purpose

YECSI Coordinator Moses Jnr Aunama noted that the initiative reflects the core values the organization seeks to instill in the nation’s future business leaders.

“Entrepreneurship is about more than just profit or innovation; it is about people,” Aunama explained. “Success must be matched with responsibility. This initiative shows that even as young entrepreneurs, we can uplift our community, especially the most vulnerable.”

He emphasized the power of collective effort: “When many people give a little, it becomes something powerful. Today, our members brought hope, dignity, and encouragement to patients who need it most.”

For the members involved, the experience was a deeply personal chance to translate abstract business values into human action, proving that true leadership extends far beyond the boardroom.
