Solomon Islands Strengthens Digital Trade Engagement at Global SIDS Conference
Solomon Islands is taking a proactive step in advancing its digital economy by participating in the TrainForTrade Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Conference, currently underway in Singapore from 5–7 November 2025.
Representing the country at this global event are Mr. Richard Nokia, Director of the E-Commerce Implementation Unit (EIU), and Mr. Tristein Zutu, E-Commerce National Coordinator.
Director Nokia said the Solomon Islands’ participation demonstrates the nation’s growing commitment to developing an inclusive and data-driven digital economy.
“This engagement allows us to learn from other small island states facing similar challenges and to identify practical solutions that can help strengthen our national e-commerce strategy,” he said.The duo joins participants from across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Asia-Pacific for discussions on digital trade and e-commerce development under the United Nations Development Account Project.
The conference, themed “TrainForTrade Blended Learning Strategy to Boost the Digital Economy in Small Island Developing States,” brings together leading policymakers, technical experts, and development practitioners to exchange insights and strengthen collaboration among SIDS in the digital era.

The conference also provides a platform for SIDS to discuss and finalise key policy recommendations under the three thematic areas of the project.
The TrainForTrade SIDS Conference is an initiative of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), designed to strengthen capacity-building and policy coordination to ensure that no island state is left behind in the global digital transformation.
