Solomon Islands Makes Lonely Planet’s Global “Best in Travel 2026” List
Solomon Islands has captured international attention after being named one of Lonely Planet’s “Top 25 Best in Travel for 2026.”
The recognition places the island nation among the world’s must-visit destinations — and as the only South Pacific country on the prestigious list, it marks a proud moment for Solomon Islanders and the region’s growing tourism industry.
The announcement follows the visit of Lonely Planet Destination Editor for Oceania, Jessica Lockhart, who travelled through the Solomon Islands last November under Tourism Solomons’ International Media Visitation Program.

Lockhart’s itinerary was nothing short of breathtaking — from hiking the mist-covered trails of Kolombangara and snorkelling the crystal-clear waters of Njari Island, to climbing Savo’s active volcano and exploring Honiara’s historic World War II sites.
Each experience painted a picture of a nation rich in heritage and blessed with raw, untouched beauty.
In her remarks, Lockhart said Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel celebrates destinations that offer meaningful and authentic experiences.
“Visiting the Solomon Islands is a truly transformative experience,” she said. “It’s emerging surf scene, unparalleled biodiversity, and rich cultural traditions are surprisingly easy to access with direct flights from Brisbane — making this a country worth visiting in 2026.”
For Tourism Solomons, the global spotlight is a validation of years of effort to promote the islands as an unspoiled paradise for explorers, divers, and culture seekers.
It also underscores the nation’s commitment to sustainable and community-driven tourism — ensuring that the benefits of travel reach local people and protect the environment that makes the Solomon Islands so unique.
This recognition from Lonely Planet is more than just a travel accolade; it’s an invitation for the world to rediscover the Solomon Islands — where adventure meets authenticity, and every journey tells a story worth remembering.
