Last week’s workshops, technical working group meetings, and steering committee sessions included key Solomon Islands Government stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology, and the Ministry of Forestry and Research.

Their leadership plays a pivotal role in advancing climate finance strategies and the country’s commitment to low-emission development.

Designing a Transparent and Inclusive Carbon Markets Framework

The primary goal is to build a transparent and effective carbon markets framework tailored to the Solomon Islands. This framework will enable the country to access climate finance opportunities while ensuring that benefits reach forest-dependent communities who are essential to forest conservation and environmental sustainability.

International stakeholders supporting this initiative include the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs, and the United Kingdom’s Forest Governance and Markets Program (FGMC). These partnerships strengthen governance and technical capacity, reinforcing the Solomon Islands’ climate action goals.
