Busy Signal to Headline Solomon Islands’ First Free International Independence Festival
The Solomon Islands is setting the stage for a new chapter in music tourism, with the official launch of the One Category Independence Festival — an all-free, family-friendly event featuring Jamaican reggae superstar Busy Signal, alongside some of the nation’s best local artists, DJs, dancers, and comedians.
The announcement was made by Solutions International Group, Cowboys Grill, and co-sponsor Kadare Party, who say the festival is more than just a concert — it’s an investment in the Solomon Islands’ future as a destination for international entertainment and cultural exchange.
“Big artists go to other islands — so why not bring them here?” Deputy Director for Solutions International Group, Jean Lesly Benoita told local media in a press conference.
“This is about showing the world that Solomon Islands is open for tourism, and that we can host shows that create jobs, promote local talent, and bring communities together.”
A Festival with Purpose
The festival will be held at DC Park,
with free shuttle services available from designated pick-up points to ensure
accessibility for all.
Local women’s groups and small vendors will operate food and drinks stalls inside the venue — at no cost to the organisers — ensuring grassroots communities benefit directly.
“We’ve been operating for over 20 years in other countries, always respecting local laws and cultures,” Mr Benoita said. “We see music tourism as a huge opportunity to create jobs and prosperity for Solomon Islanders.”
Star Power with Busy Signal
Busy Signal, a global reggae icon, is
currently on tour and has confirmed he is looking forward to performing for
Solomon Islanders.
Local performers have been rehearsing for weeks and are ready to share the stage with an international headliner for what is expected to be a high-energy, memorable show.
Free Shuttles and Family Vibes
The event is designed as a
family-oriented celebration for Independence Day. To make travel safe and
convenient, organisers will run free shuttle buses to and from the venue.
“We want to say, ‘Happy Independence Day’ to everyone — this is a thank you to the people,” Mr Benoita said. “There’s no commercial profit; this is our gift to show that we can do this again and again, building a bigger music tourism industry for the future.”
Plan Your Independence Day Celebration
The One Category Independence Festival
is set to become one of the highlights of this year’s 47th Independence Day
