YECSI and Ministry Boost E-Commerce Opportunities for Young Entrepreneurs in Solomon Islands

Unlocking Digital Opportunities for Young Entrepreneurs

More than 30 young business owners from the Young Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands (YECSI) recently participated in an exclusive information session focused on unlocking the potential of the digital marketplace.

The session was a strategic partnership between YECSI and the E-Commerce Division of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration (MCILI), highlighting how digital tools can support youth-led businesses in today’s evolving economy

YECSI and E-Commerce Division Join Forces

YECSI organised the session to equip its members with relevant, practical knowledge on how to expand their businesses through e-commerce and digital strategies. The event also introduced the E-Commerce Implementation Unit (EIU) and its work in rolling out the National E-Commerce Strategy 2022–2027.

Participants learned about available government support, including grant schemes, e-commerce training opportunities, and resources to help young entrepreneurs move from traditional brick-and-mortar setups to online platforms.

Government Strategy for Promoting Online Business

Ministry representatives delivered presentations that outlined the national plan to strengthen Solomon Islands’ e-commerce ecosystem. They spoke about the role of the EIU in streamlining online transactions, promoting digital business models, and building a more connected and competitive local economy.

“The EIU was pleased to collaborate with YECSI and its members to raise awareness of the National E-Commerce Strategy and provide information on ongoing support for businesses,” one representative noted. “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to advancing e-commerce and driving digital transformation in Solomon Islands.”

Practical Support for Youth in E-Commerce

YECSI members expressed enthusiasm and appreciation for the session, describing the content as timely and practical—especially as many young entrepreneurs seek to digitize their businesses and reach wider audiences.

Participants were encouraged to explore e-commerce as a viable pathway to promote and sell their products and services online, extending their reach beyond local markets.

Solomon Islands Youth Leading the Digital Future

These sessions are part of YECSI’s ongoing efforts to build entrepreneurial capacity among young Solomon Islanders. As digital trade expands across the Pacific, Solomon Islands youth are stepping forward—armed with the knowledge, tools, and support networks needed to thrive in the online economy.

YECSI remains committed to empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs by connecting them with key stakeholders, innovations, and opportunities that support long-term business growth in the digital age.
