The national budget for 2025 stands at SBD 5.2 billion, with SBD 1.27 billion allocated for capital investments nationwide. A notable portion of this increase is directed towards bolstering the tourism industry through international marketing campaigns and destination promotions.

“Tourism is a pillar of our economic diversification strategy,” the Governor General said. “We are working to ensure Solomon Islands is more visible and competitive on the global stage.”

With global travel showing strong signs of recovery, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is set to amplify its efforts to attract international visitors. The increased budgetary support will facilitate expanded digital outreach and the forging of strategic partnerships.

Furthermore, the funds will be channeled into development, the strengthening of community-based tourism initiatives, and crucial infrastructure upgrades in key tourism hotspots across the islands.

The Governor General emphasized the government’s commitment to realizing the full potential of the tourism sector.

“These investments reflect the Government for National Unity and Transformation’s resolve to reshape the economic and social landscape of our nation,” he said.

While the budget also prioritizes vital sectors such as health and fisheries including other government priorities, the significant boost to tourism underscores the government’s strategic move to diversify the economy and create new opportunities for growth and employment with the Solomon Islands.

The focus on international marketing and infrastructure improvements signals a clear intent to elevate the nation’s profile as a desirable travel destination.

The Governor General urged relevant ministries and stakeholders to ensure the efficient and timely implementation of these budget allocations.

“With limited resources, we must invest strategically in areas that generate high impact,” he said, highlighting the anticipated positive effects of a thriving tourism sector on livelihoods and the overall resilience of the Solomon Islands economy.
