Nine young people, including five females, joined the second cohort of the Junior Professional Program (JPP), and graduated from the Solomon Islands Government ICT Services Unit (SIG ICTSU) employees, marking a significant step in building a skilled and competitive ICT workforce in the country.

Minister of Finance and Treasury, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, congratulated the graduates and urged them to apply their expertise to contribute to national development.
Australia’s High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton, revealed that Australia invested SBD1.66 million over two years to fund the JPP.
"The graduates should be proud of their dedication and hard work," High Commissioner Hilton said.
“They are now role models for other young Solomon Islanders aspiring to enter ICT.”
“Through our partnership with the Government of Solomon Islands, Australia is proud to lead the creation of career pathways and new job opportunities for young Solomon Islanders.”
The JPP has already demonstrated success. Graduates from the first two cohorts have secured employment in various organizations, including SIG ICT Services, the Customs Graduate Program, and the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The program aims to train up to 40 young Solomon Islanders by the end of 2025, with at least two more cohorts scheduled for training this year. They are also working to establish a sustainable framework to continue the program beyond 2025, guaranteeing ongoing opportunities for aspiring ICT professionals.
JPP plays a crucial role in preparing young professionals for the evolving ICT landscape and strengthening the nation’s digital workforce for the future.
