Honiara Youth Complete Mental Health Training Under Tokspot Project

The Honiara City Council's Youth Counselling and Wellbeing Service, known as the Tokspot Project, has concluded a four-week training program focused on mental health for young people within Honiara boundaries.

The initiative, funded by the New Zealand Government through ChildFund New Zealand, aimed to equip youth with essential skills to address community mental health challenges.

Approximately 20 young individuals from various Honiara communities participated in weekly sessions, engaging in discussions and activities based on the Tokspot Manual.

The training covered 22 key mental health topics, including stress management, anger management, teen parenting, and drug and alcohol awareness.

The Honiara City Council Youth Program awarded certificates to four youth groups upon completion of the training.

These individuals are now expected to return to their communities and apply their newly acquired skills to support other young people. The training sessions provided practical tools for managing mental health and fostering resilience among youth.

The Tokspot Project, managed by the Honiara City Council Youth Division and ChildFund New Zealand, is a youth counselling and well-being initiative designed to improve the social and emotional health of Honiara's youth.

Launched in 2020 and concluding in 2025, the project has focused on building the capacity of youth workers through scholarships and training.

The project has yielded positive outcomes, including enhanced youth well-being, increased awareness of mental health issues, and the development of community service skills.

The initiative represents a strategic effort to address mental health challenges among youth in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
