Australia Supports Solomon Islands’ International Women’s Day Celebrations
Australian Government, through its High Commission in Honiara, has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality by supporting Solomon Islands’ International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 celebrations.
The three-day event, organized by the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, will be held from March 11 to 13 at the National Auditorium.
Under the theme "Accelerate Action: For all women and girls – Rights. Equality. Empowerment.", the event calls for faster progress in creating economic and leadership opportunities for women and girls, empowering them to shape the future of the country.
Australia’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton highlighted Australia’s commitments to creating opportunities for Solomon Islands’ women and girls to thrive.
“As a global champion for gender
equality, accelerating progress for women and girls is central to our
development efforts,” High Commissioner Hilton said.
“We are proud that our support across the breadth of our partnership, including in health, education, economic growth and infrastructure, continues to have a positive impact on gender equality.”
“For example, in just the past five years, the Solomon Islands Australia Partnership has provided over 4,000 women entrepreneurs with financial and business development services.”
Highlighting the tangible outcomes of this partnership, Hilton noted that over the past five years, the Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership has provided more than 4,000 women entrepreneurs with financial and business development services, strengthening their participation in the economy.
Three Days of Advocacy and Celebration
✅ Leadership and Inclusion – Highlighting women’s participation in
decision-making and leadership roles.
✅ Peace, Security, and Wellbeing – Addressing issues of safety,
gender-based violence, and health.
✅ Women’s Economic Empowerment – Showcasing opportunities for women
entrepreneurs and financial independence.
Women entrepreneurs will also showcase their products at exhibition stalls, and a charity drive will raise funds to purchase wheelchairs for the Gynaecological Ward at the National Referral Hospital.
The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) will livestream the event, making it accessible to a wider audience. Updates will also be available on the International Women’s Day – Solomon Islands Facebook page.
All Solomon Islanders are encouraged to attend, participate, and celebrate the vital roles women play in society.
