Australia has installed 53 solar-powered streetlights in Nazareth Village, Marovo, as part of the Solomon Islands–Australia Community Partnerships initiative.
The project, which received funding for building materials and transportation costs, has improved lighting in the primary school and communal village areas.
Residents have welcomed the new streetlights, with Mrs. Stella Mark from Nazareth noting that people from surrounding villages admire the improved lighting, which has enhanced safety for the entire community.
“People from surrounding villages admired the streetlights, which made life safer for everyone.”
“These projects demonstrate the spirit of partnership between Solomon Islands and Australia, delivering infrastructure that is a real priority for communities and supporting local industry and jobs,” High Commissioner Hilton said.
“In 2024, Australia funded a record 100 community projects across all provinces of Solomon Islands, representing more than SBD 23 million in direct funding to local businesses, which we know creates local jobs.”
“These are small projects with a big impact on the lives of Solomon Islanders.”
The Australian High Commission is now accepting applications for the Solomon Islands–Australia Community Partnerships program, with the deadline set for March 23. For more information, please visit: https://solomonislands.embassy.gov.au/honi/communitypartnerships.html
