A group of Seventh-Day Adventist youths from Varamata church embarked on a mission trip to Baru church in Noro's western province, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

Despite missing the TPUM Youth Congress in Samoa 2024, the youth executive decided to channel their energy into a local outreach program.

Their mission is to share a health message and build relationships with the Baru Adventist Church's youth. However, their journey took an unexpected turn when they learned about the urgent need to help a widower rebuild his home.

Inspired by the Adventist Men's project, the Varamata youths joined forces, providing manpower and financial assistance for building materials. They spent days working alongside the locals, witnessing the transformation of the widower's incomplete home into a safe and secure shelter.

"His house didn't have proper walls when we arrived. He only used roofing iron for walling. His kitchen is also covered in iron roofing without any proper building structure,” said Jeremy Maepio, a youth member who was part of the mission trip.

The experience deeply impacted the young volunteers of Varamata church.

"When our project was done, I felt joy in my heart because this act is our memory for this person," shared Chris Sangaika, another youth participant.

Lynelle Mark, a fellow youth member, echoed these sentiments: " If we are going to Samoa, I think this person will not have a good home. This trip is not an accident; it’s God’s plan to help people in need of his words and support, especially this person in need of a good home."

Beyond the building project, the youth group actively engaged in health evangelism programs within the Noro community. They witnessed firsthand the power of unity and the transformative impact of serving others.

"From this trip, I can see that there are youths who have leadership roles displayed during this trip," observed Dr. Clyde Drexlar Misi, the Varamata Adventist Youth Leader.

Jayleen Rizwold, a youth member, expressed her gratitude for the experience, "God worked great things during our trip to Baru Adventist Church. God showed that he was with us. Church members and families showed us their hospitality, and we were safe in their hands."

Reflecting on the journey, Dr. Clyde encouraged the youths, echoing the words of Ecclesiastes 12:1: “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, 'I have no pleasure in them'”

He emphasized the importance of engaging in meaningful service while young, utilizing their strength and energy to make a positive difference.

The Varamata Adventist Youth is a group from Honiara's Varamata Seventh-Day Adventist Church. These young people actively participate in the global Seventh-Day Adventist Church youth mission— “I Will Go.”

Their mission trip to Baru was a testament to this calling, focused on sharing God’s word and His love.

Through their acts of kindness and compassion in the Noro community, they not only transformed the lives of others but also enriched their own, leaving a profound legacy of hope and inspiration.
