Solomon Islands Schools Receive Math Textbooks Delivered by Australian Defence Force
In a collaborative effort to improve access to quality education, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) delivered essential learning materials to three provinces in the Solomon Islands.
Working alongside the Ministry of Education
and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) and the Education Sector Support
Program (ESSP), the ADF facilitated the delivery of over 5,000 kilograms of
textbooks. This shipment included approximately 9,500 mathematics books for
students in years three, four, and five, along with corresponding teacher
guides.
The textbooks were developed and printed by Cognition Education in partnership with MEHRD with funding from the Australian and New Zealand governments through the Education Sector Support Program.
The Australian-made C-27J Spartan aircraft played a crucial role in transporting the textbooks to Makira, Choiseul, and Temotu provinces. This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of the Solomon Islands, Australian, and New Zealand governments to enhance educational opportunities for Solomon Islands children.
"The delivery of these textbooks
represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide quality
education for all," said a spokesperson for the collaborative effort.
"We are grateful for the support of the ADF, MEHRD, and ESSP in making
this possible."
This recent delivery is part of a larger
project by ESSP. Funded by the Australian and New Zealand governments, ESSP
aims to distribute a total of 92,400 mathematics books throughout the Solomon
Islands this year. These resources include student workbooks, teacher guides,
and reproducible templates to support effective learning.
ESSP will continue working with MEHRD to
ensure the remaining schools receive their allotted textbooks. This
collaborative initiative exemplifies the unwavering commitment of the Solomon
Islands, Australia, and New Zealand to nurturing a brighter future for Solomon
Islands children through quality education.
The
Solomon Islands Education Sector Support Program (ESSP) provides the strategic
direction and implementation arrangements for the New Zealand Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), and the Australian Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade (DFAT) combined investment to support the Solomon Islands
Government to implement its Education Strategic Framework (ESF) 2016-2030 and
the National Education Action Plan 2022-2026.
