Solomon Airlines will increase domestic airfares and adjust several passenger fees from 12 October 2026, citing continued increases in aviation fuel prices and operating costs. The adjustments will affect both domestic and international travel, including airfares, fuel surcharges, prepaid excess baggage and seat selection services. Young people in Honiara facing difficult experiences are being encouraged to seek support early and talk to someone they trust rather than carrying their struggles alone. The Honiara City Council Youth Department provides a confidential counselling service where young people can speak with a counsellor about issues affecting their emotional and personal wellbeing. Youth Department highlighted that young people do not need to wait until a situation becomes a crisis before reaching out. The service supports young people experiencing stress, anxiety, grief, family or relationship difficulties, alcohol or drug-related concerns, and challenges at school, work or in the community. Through counselling, young people can talk through what they are experiencing, identify practical ways to cope with difficult situations, build confidence and resilience, and make informed choices. From navigating small boats to responding to medical emergencies and keeping vehicles safely on the road, Royal Solomon Islands Police Force personnel put practical skills to the test during the second iteration of Exercise Coastwatchers for 2026, delivered through Australia’s Defense Cooperation Program. By the time the exercise closed, 173 RSIPF personnel had completed 22 courses across nine training categories—a record result for the second of three iterations planned this year. Each completed course tells part of a bigger story: RSIPF personnel building confidence and capability, supported by the enduring partnership between the Australian Defense Force and the RSIPF.
